Ski Wanaka - Cardona, Treble Cone & Snow Farm/Park

The four ski areas of Lake Wanaka are all stunningly beautiful and cater to every level of skier or snowboarder, as well as cross-country skiers. Skiing Wanaka can be different every day. Ride a lift to the slopes or chutes best suited to your ability, find your own private powder run with the help of a guide and helicopter, or take the armchair approach, mulled wine in hand, and watch others from a sunny ski field deck.

Cardrona Alpine Resort

Thirty minutes from Lake Wanaka is Cardrona Alpine Resort, one of the few New Zealand ski areas with on-mountain accommodation. Renowned for its excellent children's facilities, wide ranging terrain, serious half pipes and New Zealand's biggest terrain park, Cardrona is a favourite with both families and freestylers. As one of the higher resorts, its snow record is very reliable and it also has an extensive range of restaurants for on-mountain dining.

Snow Farm

Across the valley from Cardrona is New Zealand's only Nordic ski area - the Snow Farm. A favourite with New Zealand's Prime Minister Helen Clark, cross-country skiing and skating is rapidly gaining popularity. The Snow Farm track standard rivals the best tracks in the Northern Hemisphere with classic and skating lanes on all trails. The 55km of trails are designed for all levels of cross country skiers and wind through the Meg River Valley to the north and the south, with views of the Southern Alps contrasting with the rolling slopes of the Pisa Range.

Snow park

Next door to the Snow Farm is the specialist Snow Park. Snow Park is New Zealand's first all-mountain terrain park featuring half pipes, terrain and rail parks and a skier/boarder X course.

Treble Cone

A scenic drive along the shores of Lake Wanaka is Treble Cone. Covering 550 hectares it is the South Islands largest ski area. Treble Cone's varied terrain and stunning views make for some of the most exhilarating runs in New Zealand. Spread over three large basins there are trails to suit all ages and skill levels. From the purpose built learner area, to long groomed green and blue runs, through challenging black runs and ungroomed powder, Treble Cone has great terrain for all levels of ability.
